From the Ashes

A Eulogy to the Parts of Meg that No Longer Serve Her

Today, we are both mourning and celebrating the Meg that arrived here in 2024. What got her here isn’t what will take her into the next chapter of her life, and I am so grateful for all the ways she said yes, all the places she sought help, all the bright and brilliant ideas she had to change the world. I am forever changed, molded and shaped by the brave woman who said yes! Who said yes to herself, yes to her future, yes to her bigger dreams. I would not stand here today if it weren’t for her tenacity and audacity, her ability to close her eyes and do it scared, to take the leap, to trust, to seek out wise advisors and mentors, and to lean into her dreams. She did it again and again, and ultimately came to the end of herself, the end of her capacity to hold onto her form and create change in the world.

Like a supernova, she realized that she had everything within her to shine, but knew that part of her would have to die in the process. The weight of all those elements couldn’t be contained within her any longer, and they ripped right through her, burst forth and the star that she once was no longer exists in its original form. The intensity of her brightness as a supernova is only just beginning to shine and increase in intensity and heat.

Here lie the safe parts of Meg, the parts that were once worked overtime to make sure she didn’t get hurt or disappointed or misunderstood. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Meg has stepped into the fire, and the woman who is entering 2024 is NOT the same woman who spent 2023 strong-arming the magic, white-knuckling it with gritted teeth.

With every death, there’s the whisper to step into more, to let go of what is no longer serving and step into a fuller, more robust vision, a brighter future, and that is what Meg is leaving behind in 2023. With loss, there is space created for more, for different, for better. With pruning, there’s more growth, more fruit.

A woman with outward courage dares to die; a woman with inner courage dares to live.
